The project « History through their eyes » was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme “Europe for Citizens”

6 events have been carried out within this project:

Event 1 – kick-off meeting in Brussels
Participation: The event involved 16 project partners, including 1 participant from Berlin (Germany),
7 participants from Nijmegen and Elst (the Netherlands), 4 participants from Brussels, Bastogne and Zoersel (Belgium), 3 participants from Caen (France), 1 participant from Milan (Italy).
Location / Dates: The event took place in Brussels (Belgium), from 11/10/2017 to 13/10/2017
Short description: The aim of the event was to prepare the project implementation plan, divide the tasks and discuss the organization of the events.

Event 2 – conference, workshops and exhibition in Caen
Participation: The conference involved 72 citizens, including 65 participants from Saint-Lô, Le Havre, Caen (France), 1 participant from Bialystok (Poland), 3 participants from Bastogne and Brussels (Belgium), 1 participant from Berlin (Germany), 2 participants from Bethlehem and Bristol (USA). 1.500 citizens visited the exhibition.
Location / Dates: The event took place in Caen, France, from 08/06/2018 to 08/07/2018
Short description: The aim of the event was to inaugurate the travelling exhibition ‘History through their eyes’, organize workshops with teachers and project partners as well as the conference ‘D-Day and the Normandy Landing Beaches – symbols of the universal values of freedom and democracy?’ with the participation of WWII veterans.

Event 3 – conference, workshops and exhibition in Nijmegen
Participation: The conference involved 95 citizens, including 90 participants from of Nijmegen, Maastricht and Utrecht (the Netherlands), 2 participants from Cassino (Italy), 1 participant from Brussels (Belgium), 2 participants from (Germany). 2.746 citizens visited the exhibition.
Location / Dates: The event took place in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, from 19/09/2018 to 19/10/2018
Short description: The aim of the event was to open the travelling exhibition, organize a whole day program for students to better understand the local history and increase the interest for international cooperation in the field of the WWII remembrance.

Event 4 – conference, workshops and exhibition in Berlin
Participation: The event involved 81 citizens, including 77 participants from Berlin (Germany),1 participant from Bastogne (Belgium), 2 participants from Nijmegen and Arnhem (the Netherlands), 1 participant from Bialystok (Poland). 4.032 citizens visited the exhibition.
Location / Dates: The event took place in Berlin, Germany, from 08/11/2018 to 08/12/2018
Short description: The aim of the event was to inaugurate the travelling exhibition, organize workshops for students with the participation of WWII eyewitnesses, teachers and project partners in order to discuss the European memories of the WWII.

Event 5 – conference, workshops and exhibition in Bastogne
Participation: The event involved 136 citizens, including 132 participants from Hénallux, Bastogne and Brussels (Belgium), 2 participants from Caen (France), 1 participant from Bialystok (Poland), and 1 participant from Hellenthal (Germany). 9.800 citizens visited the exhibition.
Location / Dates: The event took place in Bastogne, Belgium, from 06/12/2018 to 06/01/2019
Short description: The aim of the event was to inaugurate the travelling exhibition, organize workshops for students with the participation of WWII eyewitnesses, historians and project partners around the topic of the creation of the European Union, the causes and consequences of the Second World War and parallels between Europe’s past and present.

Event 6 – conference, workshops and exhibition in Cassino
Participation: The event involved 280 citizens, including 275 participants from the city of Cassino and Volterra, (Italy), 2 participants from Nijmegen (the Netherlands), 1 participant from Brussels (Belgium) and 2 participants from Herefordshire (United Kingdom). 1.000 citizens visited the exhibition.
Location / Dates: The event took place in Cassino, Italy, from 15/02/2019 to 15/03/2019
Short description: The aim of the event was to inaugurate the travelling exhibition, present the results of students’ research on the topic “From Cassino to Rome, World War II as the mother of Europe?” and discuss with WWII eyewitnesses.
