The Liberation Route Europe Experience
The Liberation Route experience has been designed so that operators can plan their own route based on the visitor’s interest. Whether they are interested in travelling the route taken by the American, Polish, Canadian or British troops, or in visiting the place of a specific battle or war cemetery, visitors can find a specific LRE itinerary suggestion.
How to follow the Liberation Route is entirely up to the visitors, who can either join a group tour from a variety of itineraries designed by LRE and offered by our network of operators, or they can hike, cycle or drive along stretches of the route on their own.
The LRE tour suggestions focus either on a specific area or event, or are transnational and cover longer stretches of the historic Allied Forces’ advance. Some of the tours suggested by LRE are already being offered and operated by our Tour Operator partners in their respective countries.
We cordially invite you to contact the Liberation Route Europe Foundation to join our network and extend this experience to your region of interest.
Hiking the Liberation Route Europe
Liberation Route Europe Foundation cooperated with the Dutch hiking organization Wandelnet to create the Liberation Route Hiking Trail from London to Berlin. A network of hiking specialists and historians was established to develop a detailed route based on existing trails (e.g. LAW, GR, FWW), including WWII locations, tourism sites, accommodations and hiking information. The route will offer hundreds of remembrance sites to visit stretching over 3,000 kilometres and 5 countries. Branch routes rejoining the main route will be also created.
In collaboration with its partners, LRE Foundation will make tourist hiking guides and maps available, along with a digital route planner, and a stamp collection & completion system.
